Hourly vs. Flat Rate Moving Quotes in NYC: Which One Should You Get?

Every moving quote in NYC is one of two kinds: hourly or flat rate. Here's how each one works at Solidarity, and when to pick which.

How an hourly quote works

Local hourly moves are quoted at 120 an hour for two movers (see our policies); add-ons like extra movers, tolls, or special handling are called out in your quote.

You pay for the time the crew spends on site. If we knock on your door at 9am and you're fully moved in by 2pm, that's a 5-hour move. We add travel time, tolls, and special handling (an upright piano, marble slabs) to the base rate when needed, so they don't show up as surprises later.

Best for: smaller local moves, like studios, 1 bedrooms, office moves, and art moves.

How a flat rate quote works

The price is based on your move date, both addresses, and a detailed inventory. The time on site doesn't change the price. Traffic, a slow elevator, or a building delay is our problem, not yours.

You can get one two ways:

  1. Fill out the quote form and list your inventory, or
  2. Text or call (929) 295-4228 and we'll go through your move over the phone.

We email back a guaranteed flat price. If your inventory changes before or during the move, we adjust it the way our policies describe.

Which one should you choose?

Our honest take: flat rate is the lowest-stress option for most people. Nobody's watching the clock, and you know the number before we show up.

What's included either way

Every move includes a big ol' truck (covered in art), a friendly, on-time crew, professional equipment, free mattress protection, and 2 wardrobe boxes.

Typical starting prices

Studios start from $450, 1 bedrooms from $650, and 2 bedrooms from $950. Your exact price depends on stairs, elevators, packing, and distance. Get your exact quote →
