Short answer: 48 hours' notice usually works. At the end of the month, book at least a week ahead.
Why the end of the month is different
Most NYC leases start on the 1st, so half the city moves in the same few days. Between the 25th of one month and the 3rd of the next, trucks and crews book up fast all over the city.
How far ahead to book
- Most of the month: At least 48 hours ahead
- 25th → 3rd (peak): At least 1 week ahead
Tips for getting the date you want
- Be flexible if you can. Our quote form asks whether your date is flexible. Even one day either way can open up more times.
- Mid-month is calmer. If your lease overlaps, moving on the 10th instead of the 31st is usually easier for everyone.
- Get a flat rate quote early. You'll lock in a guaranteed price and your spot on the calendar. (Here's how flat rate works; local hourly is 120 an hour for two movers.)
- Line up building paperwork early. COIs and elevator reservations often take longer than the move itself.
